Brewista was founded back in 2014 by a team of coffee-loving engineers. Their goal was to provide high-end java appliances and accessories for home and cafe brewing alike. In our opinion, they’ve succeeded very well with their lineup of pour-over kettles, coffee filters, cold brew products, and in the case of this review: coffee scales.

Brewista has a few offerings when it comes to scales; however, today, we want to shed light on the Smart Scale-II. Read on to learn all you need to know before purchasing this java device!

Who is the Brewista Smart Scale For?

After trying and testing the Brewista Smart Coffee Scale, we concluded this is a great pick for at-home baristas. The scale was easy to use and had several features that would even make it suitable for small coffee shops. And, because it runs on a rechargeable battery, it’s a great pick if you don’t want to eat through sets of AAA batteries.

Overall, this is an advanced coffee scale designed for small cafes or at-home baristas. It does have quite a few controls that aren’t very intuitive. Therefore, if you’re new to the brewing game, you may be better off purchasing a less advanced coffee scale

What Makes This Coffee Scale Special?

The Brewista Smart Scale II is very technologically advanced. Be advised that by “smart,” it doesn’t mean Bluetooth compatible. Instead, it means it offers six modes, them being:

  1. Fully manual option: tare & timer
  2. Espresso: Auto-tare and auto-timer start (when the cup is placed on the scale)
  3. Espresso: Auto-tare and manual timer start
  4. Espresso: Auto-tare (no timer)
  5. Espresso: Auto-tare; the timer starts when the liquid hits the cup
  6. Pour-over: Auto-tares the brew vessel, manual tare begins after adding ground coffee, and the timer starts when water is added to the grounds.

We will say that we don’t understand the function of number 4 as it’s basically the same as number 3. When choosing the mode, you’ll get about 2 seconds to choose the mode you want. The display will cycle through each of them until it shows the mode you want. This isn’t very useful; say you want to go from mode 3 back to 1. In this case, you’ll have to wait for the modes to cycle through.

Why Should I Buy the Brewista Smart Scale 2?

This coffee scale is water-resistant. Some users claim to have had it for over two years, and it’s still in solid condition. You should also purchase the Brewista Smart Scale II if you want a product with excellent battery life. We appreciate the fact we no longer need AAA batteries and instead can recharge it when needed.

Moreover, you’ll receive 5 expresso modes and 1 manual mode with this scale. You’ll also get an accuracy of 0.1 grams and a 2000 gram capacity.

Our Verdict

Overall, the Brewista Smart Scale 2 is a well-rounded product. While the “smart” portion of it can be misleading since it doesn’t connect to an iOS or Android app, it does offer multiple modes beyond simple weighing. It also has a timer, and with a little bit of practice, we can see how coffee brewing is made more convenient.

If you are looking for a coffee scale high on the features, the Brewista Smart Scale II is for you!
