Bat Poop Coffee: All You Need to Know

By Robert Parsons June 4, 2021

Poop Coffee. Yes, it exists. Not only does it exist, but poop coffee has become more popular than ever in recent years.

We know there must be a lot of questions you have for us. We had them ourselves, so we searched through all things bat poop coffee and have all you need to know.

Whether you are interested in giving it a try, or simply reading this article to probe this as a real practice of coffee brewing, we are going to dive into everything there is to know about poop coffee and why it has been a sought after coffee.

What is it?

The biggest question that many have when it comes to coffee made from bat poop is what goes into this rather gross practice and why are people drinking it? While the name in itself makes a name for itself, there is a unique scientific process that makes animal poop coffee stand out from others.

When coffee fertilizes while moving through the digestive tract of the animal, the bean mixes with saliva and digestive fluids that bring for a unique flavor that is astronomically different from other coffee.

What is the science behind it? When the bean mixes with these fluids, it lowers the acidity and therefore, bitter taste that the acidity brings. This gives the coffee a sweeter, more desirable taste that is undeniable. The question is, are you willing to drink something that came from poop even if it tastes delicious? For many, the answer would be definitely not.

Scientists are aware of this uneasiness or full rejection by many, and they are in the works of creating this coffee process through other means than eating shit, literally. Another reason bat coffee is not the favorite option is the production hold up this causes. Upkeep of animals and allowing the bean to take its course cost money and time, the two things companies never seem to have enough of.

Why Should I Try This

If you are still interested in giving bat shit coffee a try, there are a few reasons why people are continuing to gravitate towards it. Like we talked about earlier, there is a large flavor difference. If your biggest reason for steering away from coffee in the past has been the bitter taste, you might like coffee made from bat poop.

Another reason some people turn towards giving bat coffee a try is the culture that comes along with it. This practice of coffee making was discovered by the Western World over three hundred years ago, and has carried that tradition on for the most elite and not spoken or known about by many people for quite some time. It was considered a rare treat and treated with pride and care in the fermentation process as well as the way the animals were treated.

But, with pop culture finding new, quirky trends each day, it wasn’t long before mainstream coffee outlets found this method and turned this once sacred, rare coffee treat into the newest fad.

Why Shouldn’t I Try This?

If you’re known for being the brave one of the bunch or prone to seek adventure in everything, maybe the concept of drinking bat shit coffee is not a big enough reason to change course. There are, however, some other reasons that this might not be a drink you should adopt as your newest treat.

One big factor in steering clear of bat coffee is the treatment of animals or any need for animals for that matter. Coffee already grows on its own, and including animals seems trivial and unnecessary. Not to mention the long history of animal cruelty that comes along with mass production.

Animals in the mass production business are held in small cages with an urgency to produce and little to no sympathy if they don’t.

Bat Coffee is also extremely expensive, so if you are looking to give it a try, be prepared to hand over a few extra bucks than you might expect. Few extra bucks as in one of the most expensive coffees in the world few extra bucks.

However, if you do come across bat coffee that is less expensive than others, steer clear. It most likely comes from an unjust animal production site to keep the prices low. Taking care of animals and feeding them properly takes time and money, a big reason for the hefty price. Not to mention people continue to pay it to get a chance to give this odd coffee a try.

Conclusion

So now we have gone over the good, the bad, and the history of how the bat poop coffee process began and continues to grow despite most people’s shock. What is your verdict? Are you willing to give this a try for your next cup of joe? Whatever you decide, remember to be responsible.
