By Robert Parsons April 7, 2021

Hello, fellow coffee lovers. Today we are going to talk about a personal favorite of ours that is gaining traction each day in the coffee world: cold brew.

We know it can be overwhelming to keep up with the latest trends and new brewing styles that seem to pop up each day. So don’t worry, we have you covered. We are going to go over some of the biggest cold brew coffee benefits. In turn, we hope to convince you to jump on the cold brew bandwagon.

So take a seat, get ready to take some mental notes, and let’s get started!

What is Cold Brew Coffee?

Before we go any further, let’s talk about what cold brew is in the first place and what makes it unique.

Cold-brew is a totally different process than other coffee brewing methods. The process is much longer than most and requires hours of steeping. However, there are a lot of positive features attached that we’ll get to in a second.

How it works is it seeps slowly with room temperature water over coffee grounds while most coffee brewing uses high heat and pressure to brew coffee. Cold brewing can be done with any type of coffee grounds and with many types of containers. This is a big pull for this style of brewing by many people because you don’t need a fancy machine or even electricity and to make a great cup!

So now that we have gone over the basics, we can go over why it is so great!

What are the Benefits?

Okay so now to the good stuff. Here are our top 5 benefits of cold brew coffee for you to learn and love:

Sweeter Flavor

While we all have a fond love for java, no one likes the bitter taste that comes from an over seeped batch. Unlike regular drip coffee makers, cold brew uses cool water rather than boiling or almost boiling water. This allows for the ground to slowly seep resulting in rich, clean flavors.

Moreover, because it doesn’t rely on either heat or high pressure, this results in a less acidic,  smoother cup of joe. This allows for less sweetener added to your coffee keeping your calories low and taste buds high.

Easier On Your Stomach

Piggybacking on our last point, the cold brewing process not only brings a sweeter taste, but the less acidic brewing is much easier on your stomach. This is an ideal brewing method for people with sensitive stomachs.

So if you have strayed away from coffee because of this issue, you have found your answer. Regardless, choosing a coffee option that is lighter on your stomach is never a bad choice.

More Caffeine

A personal favorite of ours is that cold brew has up to three times more caffeine than the average cup of joe. Who doesn’t love some more caffeine to add to your drink?

Not to forget all the other benefits of cold brew, you can now sip guilt-free knowing you are treating your body to its caffeine rush without the not so great benefits regular coffee or espresso drinks bring!

Simple to Make

Another great benefit is that it is extremely simple to make. If you have a coffee ground strainer and a good quality glass container, you can be a cold brew professional!

Simply allow the coffee to brew for at least 12 hours but up to 24 hours depending on how strong you would like the coffee to be. You can keep it at room temperature during the brew time or in the refrigerator. Just remember to remove the grounds if you are going to store the cold brew in the same container.

Can Be Served Hot or Cold

Contrary to most people’s thought and the name itself, cold brew does not have to come cold. You can serve it hot with all the same benefits! Just add hot water to your cold brew to heat it up and there you have it: hot cold brew. For those of you that are strict hot java drinkers, you can still be a fan and reap the benefits!

Bonus: An extra plus is that because of the slow seeping method with water, there is no worry of watering down your coffee like other methods. So even if you don’t refrigerate the cold brew, you can be confident it will still burst with rich flavor filling it with as much ice as you please, even when it starts to melt!

Final Thoughts

Now that you know what cold brew is, why it’s a fun coffee option, and what the cold brew coffee benefits are, the opportunities are endless. We hope you fall in love with a new method of brewing and incorporate it into your coffee brew book. So take this information and go wild!

Happy brewing!
